‘Suspicious Person’ Reported at Local Jewelry Store

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incident was reported by the Brecksville Police Department on Jan. 17. The information was compiled from a police report.

A Brecksville Fine Jewelers employee called police just before noon on Jan. 17 to report that a “suspicious person” had recently left the store.

The employee told police that for about the past hour, a man had been speaking with her about a variety of topics. The man—who the employee estimated to be in his mid-20s—told her he was 55. He claimed to work for the FBI and as a landscaper, and said that he was from Romania and had only been in the U.S. for two weeks. He also showed the employee “indecent photos” of women on his phone, as well as photos of women he said were his wife. The employee said the photos of the supposed wife were all of different women.

The employee tried to show the man some jewelry he commented on, but he told her he did not want to see it. He left when the employee started to ignore his stories and said he would return with his wife to look at the jewelry.

Police could not find the man nearby, but alerted the other local jewelry stores.
