Tennessee DEA Finds Connection to Brecksville Home Burglary

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department and the city prosecutor. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The Cuyahoga County grand jury today indicted two men in connection with a home burglary in Brecksville last weekend, said Detective Jim Lobenthal.

But they weren’t found in Brecksville.

The men in question, Rafael Perez, 24, and Angel Calimeno, 24, of Houston, Texas, were arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration in Tennessee after a traffic stop, said Brecksville’s City Prosecutor Sergio DiGeronimo.

The officers found about $11,000 in cash in the car, along with some other items like jewelry and a deposit slip with the name of a Brecksville resident on it, DiGeronimo said. After checking the car’s GPS, they confirmed that the car had been in the Brecksville area. The DEA contacted Brecksville on Oct. 9.

The resident had been out of town, but found his or her home broken into. The resident is missing about $17,000 and some jewelry. There was also a safe missing, which was not found in the car, DiGeronimo said.

What was found in the car, though?

A receipt from the Home Depot in Macedonia for two crowbars, DiGeronimo said.

Lobenthal said the men will be extradited to Cuyahoga County to face the charges of burglary, theft and vandalism. There is a possible third party involved, but there is no other information on that individual at this time.
