Brecksville-Broadview Heights Still Waiting to Create New Teacher Evaluation System

The Board of Education approved a resolution on Monday that delays the creation of the group working on the system until the state provides further guidance.

Brecksville-Broadview Heights is waiting to update its teacher evaluation system.

The Board of Education approved a memorandum of understanding with the district’s education association during , agreeing to push back the date to create the group that will discuss new evaluation procedures.

According to the resolution, the contract for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Education Association had included a section that said an “evaluation committee” should be created by Oct. 1. That group would then work to create new evaluation methods—a requirement under the —to present to both the board and the association by mid-February.

But Prebles said after the meeting that the district is still waiting on input from the state, and they have yet to receive guidelines from the state Board of Education.

According to information on the Ohio Department of Education’s website, those new guidelines must be completed by the end of December. The guidelines will be based on standards that will measure a teacher's performance in the classroom.

Monday’s agreement pushes back the deadline for Brecksville-Broadview Heights evaluation committee to be created and meet until mid February. The recommendations will then, instead, be due in November of next year.
