Brecksville City Council Appoints Part-time Firefighters, Acting Law Director

The council also approved a number of temporary work easements for the Riverview Road Sanitary Sewer Project.

Brecksville City Council last night approved the appointment of to the .  

Noah B. Coyner was appointed as a part-time firefighter/EMT. Mayor Jerry N. Hruby noted that Coyner is the son of a part-time Brecksville firefighter who lives in town with his family. Joseph J. Lecznar, a Seven Hills resident, was appointed as a part-time firefighter/paramedic. 

Hruby said he hoped both men would make a career out of the Brecksville Fire Department.

“Gentleman, be safe. Be careful,” Hruby said to both after they took the oath of office in front of a full room. “Thank you very much for your service.”

Earlier in the evening, council approved the appointment of Stephen Klonowski as acting law director for the city. Klonowski will fill the vacancy left by Paul Grau, who recently passed away.

Klonowski will serve as law director until the council takes permanent action. He will receive $125 per hour.

Klonowski said he was “honored and humbled” to be named acting law director, and that he will work to make the transition as smooth as possible. 

Hruby said the council will offer official condolences for Grau at a future meeting when Council President Larry J. Potla, who was absent, would be in attendance. The council did have a moment of silence in honor of Grau.

In other council news:

  • City Council approved a grant of $4,050 to the Brecksville Historical Association. Council Vice President Greg Skaljac said the council had given the association an advance of its 2010 grant in 2009, but that the remaining money had never been disbursed. This grant makes up that balance.
  • Council gave the city permission to apply for a grant from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. This grant would be a partnership with the , Police Chief Richard E. Mannarino said during the committee meetings. The grant would fund projects such as mapping of the schools in the city of Brecksville. 
  • The council approved seven temporary work easements on private property that would allow work to move forward on the .
  • The council also discussed the need to find more funds for this year’s .
