City Council Appoints New Law Director

David J. Matty of Rademaker, Matty, Henrikson and Greve begins today.

Brecksville’s City Council approved the appointment of David J. Matty as the city’s new law director Monday morning. 

Council held a at 9 a.m. in to vote on the appointment. Matty replaces the city’s former law director, Paul A. Grau, who passed away in May. 

Matty said he had the chance to work with Grau over the years and, when he heard of his death, he thought there was the chance for him to do some good for the city and try to help as much as Grau did.

Matty is part of the Rademaker, Matty, Henrikson and Greve law firm, which will now serve as the legal counsel for the city. 

Matty has more than 30 years of municipal experience and has served as a law director in Rocky River and Solon, according to a press release from the city.

The firm will receive a retainer of $5,291.67 per month, according to the ordinance, and Matty will not receive medical, dental or other benefits from the city. He will be provided a $50,000 life insurance policy as long as it is offered to other city employees. The contract begins today.  

“I’m ready to get to work,” Matty said.
