City of Brecksville Recommends Variable Natural Gas Rate

City also addresses "incessant daily phone calls" from companies selling natural gas.

Lock into a gas rate, or not?

The city of Brecksville doesn’t recommend it.

“In our opinion every Brecksville customer should have NOPEC’s variable rate,” according to a recent letter to residents. “No exceptions.”

In the middle of summer, gas rates may not be on the minds of residents.

However, the city is set to host its annual pubic meeting about natural gas and electricity rates at the Brecksville Human Services Center at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18.

Meanwhile, the letters should begin arriving in residents’ mailboxes.

The letter also points out that many residents have complained about the “incessant daily phone calls” from companies selling natural gas.

“It sounds like the calls are from Dominion East Ohio but they are not.”

The letter points out that residents not on the do-not-call list could call the Do Not Call Registry at 1-888-382-1222.

Some of the other highlights from the notice include:

  • The rate on your July bill from Dominion East Ohio should be no higher than $4.75.
  • The rate on your August bill should be no higher than $4.30.
  • It appears that rates will still be below $5.00 by the end of the year.
  • So, you might ask, should I lock into a fixed rate? NO!! A fixed rate is still not recommended because the fixed rate offers are always too high.
  • Also bear in mind that if variable rates should manage to get as high as fixed rate offers they won’t come close to the fixed rate until near the end of the contract (if at all!) meaning that you will have paid too much during the life of the contract.
  • Don’t be frightened into taking a fixed rate.
