Construction on the New Police Station to Begin in Late 2013, Early 2014

The city still has to select an architectural firm to design the station.

After more than a decade of discussions, plans for Brecksville’s new police station are moving forward.

The city purchased the final plots of land in 2000, 2009 and 2012, Mayor Jerry N. Hruby said, and voters passed the necessary rezoning back in November.

Soon the land across the street from the fire station—9020, 9028 and 9034 Brecksville Road—will be cleared and leveled, with the remaining house removed, Hruby said. He added that the resident recently moved out.

It will still be awhile before construction gets underway—Hruby said he didn’t expect to see ground broken until late 2013 or early 2014—but it’s good progress for a project that’s been in the works since the ’90s.

Louis N. Carouse Jr., council member and chair of the city’s Buildings and Grounds committee, said council still has to reach out to some architectural firms. If this project is like those in the past, council will have a short list of companies share their ideas before selecting one to design the station. Carouse expected this to move forward soon, so the city could get the plans started this year.

Hruby said the construction of the new station would cost anywhere from $4 to $7 million.
