Construction That Has Closed Route 82 Is On Schedule

The stretch of road is expected to reopen Aug. 13, just in time for school.

After some earlier delays, the work on state Route 82 is well under way.

City officials told city council on Tuesday that the work is "on schedule."

The south side of the artery is completed. The north side was expected to begin this week.

After lots of rain slowed the contractors’ schedule, the closure of state Route 82 was delayed.

The road will be closed entirely between Old Royalton Road for two weeks, starting July 29, while crews work to repair a culvert.

The stretch of road is expected to reopen Aug. 13, just in time for school.

The entire project will take a few months, and the road will be closed during the first two weeks of construction.

Because SR 82 is a main artery of traffic, city officials had hoped to have to have the closure wrapped up by the time school buses began routes.

Motorists are encouraged to take Old Royalton Road as a detour (see the attached map), or use Oakes Road and Highland Drive.

The failed culvert is causing some slippage and barriers have been erected to keep drivers away from the area until construction begins.

Earlier this year, city officials learned that the city is receiving a grant for $230,000 for construction costs from the Ohio Department of Transportation
