Cuyahoga Valley National Park Wins More than $3 Million in Federal Funds

The money will go toward improvements on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

The will receive more than $3 million from the Federal Transit Administration for improvements on the scenic railroad.

The runs through the park, making stops at stations in cities like Independence, Brecksville and Peninsula.

According to a press release, the federal money will support five projects, including the rebuilding or replacement of four cars and the building of a bridge at Independence’s Rockside Station. Nearly $1 million will be spent rebuilding one of the locomotives using green technology.

The Federal Transit Administration has a list of all the fiscal year 2011/2012 Transit in Parks programs on its website. According to the website, the grant is designed to address vehicle congestion in national parks and federal lands.
