Thank you for this. I will email Mr. Dileno and ask him to explain his statement. Again, I am not against our safety forces and never was. I am for restoring balance.
Robert Arnold November 02, 2011 at 03:18 PM
Cynthea, you should check your facts and fire your accountants. Mr. Thompson just provided a link that refutes your lie regarding "no fire fighters in Ohio have died in the line of duty in NE Ohio in over 25 years." Talk about dirty tricks, Building a Better Ohio was too cheap to make a polished commercial for themselves so they stole the likeness of a great grandma from a We Are Ohio commercial and twisted her words, making it look like she supported Issue 2. And if it wasn't for the joe public and the outrage, they still would be airing the commercial. Ohioans will defeat Issue 2 at the polls.
Cynthea Sabolich November 02, 2011 at 03:37 PM
Robert, supporters of Issue 2 were just as outraged and angry about that juvenile tactic as the rest of Ohio. It was dumb dumb dumb. I know they thought they could show that YES was the right answer because ONLY Yes will allow cities to keep more safety forces working with the money they have available. When the money runs out, lay offs occurr. Do you deny that or are we supposed to believe it isn't going to happen? As to the other - I am writing to Mr. Dileno to find out where he got his information. He is ranked a Super Lawyer, and so I made the mistake of not getting his original source. That does not mean that he is wrong, it just means that I don't have access to why there is disparity.
Robert Arnold November 02, 2011 at 03:43 PM
Ok, fair enough. Lawyers will say just about anything to defend their clients. Even the Super Laywers. That is what they are paid to do.

I just love all the whining about We Are Ohio having such a large budget with which to fight SB5/issue 2, when the proponents of the bill won't even release their donor lists! Unions took a vote to donate the money and ya know what? Simple math shows that if We Are Ohio has more to spend, it's probably (going out on a limb here) because MORE PEOPLE ARE AGAINST THE BILL. Keep in mind too that these were mostly <$50 donations!! Takes quite a few to total the $7 million plus! And I dare any Republican to whine about campaign donations.
Jake Racketch November 02, 2011 at 11:01 PM
This argument that portions of SB5 can save jobs by spending money where it should be spent, sharing the burden of benefits, etc. is going un-refuted because at least in my opinion, I'm not sure that's a false statement! Will more bills come up in the legislature that bring back portions of SB5? Absolutely and some probably should! NO ONE that is against SB5 WANTS young, hardworking employees to be laid off because of budgetarily strapped cities and boards, in favor of keeping bad apples in law enforcement or education. What they want is for this overreaching, overzealous, partisan bill to be SHUT DOWN to show their elected representatives that they went too far. Will these same constituents oppose parts of SB5, on which we can probably all agree, when they are brought back through the legislature? Some, but not nearly as many! Look at the polls! A majority want to reject SB5, yet a majority ALSO wants to see increased benefit contributions, merit pay systems, etc.! WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, THAT YOU STILL DON'T GET, ABOUT THE BILL?!
Donald R. Thompson November 03, 2011 at 03:18 AM
Yeah Super Lawyer Dileno (the guy that only represents the EMPLOYER every time) REAL UNBIASED SOURCE......You may as well post BS from Kasich himself, it would be just as BIASED
Donald R. Thompson November 03, 2011 at 03:24 AM
No Cynthea you folks LOVE dirty tricks and politics....that commercial is just a window into the Ohio YOU people want us to live in ...DIVISIVENESS IN ACTION is the Ohio Republican party
Cynthea Sabolich November 03, 2011 at 12:35 PM
What is dirty are the TV and radio ads saying that the fire fighters and police and nurses unions control the number of people on the job. When the Mayor gets on TV and says the budget is busted, he lays of those people because they are the biggest slice of the pie. It is math. If we can look at the few who get the highest pay, and reduce that, or ask everyone to contribute to their own health care or their own pensions, we have money to keep people on the job. The lie is that there is going to be money for workers when there.is.no.money. That is the deceit. That is the lie. Preying on peoples fears. Scaring the public with emotional blackmail. Using some old woman who grand daughter was saved. Odd that mom and dad weren't out there. I plan on making sure I send every lay off, every fire that took too long to that useful idiot. Doesn't she know that they would rather keep all the middle managers who don't show up to save anyone while laying off the ones who do? We have too many managers, administrators, high paid pensions, paid days off, over time abuses. If we can bring that back under control, then we have better services and more workers. That is much more of an outrage than one stupid decision by someone to try to turn around a lying ad. So, a private citizen like me with no power or a union boss who stands to lose millions in taxpayer dollars, which one do you think is the real dirty trickster?
Jim November 03, 2011 at 03:18 PM
It is amazing to me that there are people actually duped by the opponents of issue 2. Wake up, realize that the onlypeople who will win are the union leaders, and VOTE YES ON 2
Chriss November 03, 2011 at 05:35 PM
That is easy, Cynthea, the real dirty tricksters are you and all who spread the lies of Republican Governors. Go check out all on their staffs and the amounts they get paid. They only want the public (middle class) to bicker about each other and keep their eyes off the real dirt.
Chriss November 03, 2011 at 05:54 PM
Haven't seen a Governor yet who fights for their people. The only role of unions is to fight for their members. Union Leaders earn their pay, Governors have become bought by special interests. Join the Occupy movement to clean out political abuses and Corporate tricks that cheat the public.
Cynthea Sabolich November 03, 2011 at 06:17 PM
When someone won't even post their full name, one must conclude they are a paid operative, ashamed, or a coward, Chriss. But you want sympathy for the Occupy folks who are thinking about incorporating as a tax shelter to their money in a bank checking account (the irony is so rich with these folks it is almost too easy to point out their hypocrisy)? Here are their supporters: Communist Party USA,The American Nazi Party,Revolutionary Communist Party, Black Panthers, Nation of Islam’s Louis Farrakhan, CAIR, Iran’s Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Khamenei, Hugo Chavez, Revolutionary Guards of Iran, The Govt of North Korea, Communist Party of China, Hezbollah Although the TEA party groups find they have similar goals as the GOP, they remain critics of the Republican party, which is why, when we found that SB5 could be better, we demanded they FIX IT. And now, while the unions are still continuing to come to the table to make a better Ohio, we are still holding Columubs to the legitimate complaints of the safety forces, and will join with them if they don't FIX IT. We aren't sleeping on public property doing nothing but whining, we are demanding good government with one side or the other winning. We demand the people win. Right now, that means saying YES to Issue 2. Nov. 9th, it will be demanding the issues get addressed and remedied for my police, my firefighters, my prison guards.
Cynthea Sabolich November 03, 2011 at 06:20 PM
correction, When the unions are continuing NOT to find and fix those problems within themselves... As of today, all we get is the same hysterical background noise they had in Wisconsin. Hope Ohio is as smart as Wisconsin but it seems like it might be a toss up.
Chriss November 03, 2011 at 08:43 PM
What is with you and needing to know someone's full name on the internet? I brought down a hugh drug gang in my neighborhood and yes I do not want that out there but you just would not shut up.
Chriss November 03, 2011 at 08:48 PM
I forgot to say, you may add my name, Chriss, to that list of Occupy supporters.
Cynthea Sabolich November 03, 2011 at 09:15 PM
Chriss who likes to keep his true identity secret, it is the policy of the Patch that you don't post without your full first and last name. Why? Because it is easy to smear someone or denegrade them when you hide behind a mask. You can say anything, make yourself out to be anything because it is the internet but when you are a real person, you have to post and be responsible. Considering you want to affiliate with North Korea, I guess you wouldn't want your family to know. But again, typical lefty tactic. Don't have anything to say so whine or change the subject. I have something to say with my real name Vote Yes on Issue 2 and 3.
Chriss November 03, 2011 at 09:26 PM
Reread the policy it applies to those who sign up for an "account" You do not need an account to join conversations. I had cops in my home watching the thugs and a hit was put on me. If you think I would put my life at risk, for someone who talks down to others, like you are better then them, you are a bigger fool then you appear. VOTE NO ON ISSUE 2
Donald R. Thompson November 03, 2011 at 09:35 PM
Union Busting ONLY (nothing to do with saving ANY money) sections of ISSUE 2: 1. 30% decertification petition demonstrating that 30% of the employees of a unit support the decert petition 2. Expanding the definition of "supervisor" within Fire and Police Dept.'s 3. Removes Lt. rank from Fire Dept. bargaining unit 4. Removes fair share fee from all union contracts 5. Eliminates the ability of the parties to submit disputes to an agreed-upon dispute resolution procedure. 6. Requires the legislative body of the public employer to be the final decision maker with respect to any dispute that remains unresolved. 7. Expands the list of unfair labor practices that may be committed by an employee organization and limiting those that may be committed by the employer 8. Repeals the provision requiring the Public Employee Collective Bargaining law to be liberally construed.
Donald R. Thompson November 03, 2011 at 09:39 PM
Issue 2 is all about making Unions OBSOLETE, that is overreach by an extremist Governor/ House/ Senate......We'll remember IN NOVEMBER!!
James Thomas November 03, 2011 at 09:56 PM
There are those of us who think that unions are already obsolete but hold onto power and special intrest status by virtue of the laws now in place. Unions do not acknowledge that the practices they were formed to fight against have all been accomplished. The pendulum has swung to far to the labor side and is now equalizing.
Jake Racketch November 03, 2011 at 10:48 PM
I need Prozac? Ha, and here I thought you were the naysayer. Please reread my post and realize that I was simply pointing out the ridiculousness of your obvious mistake in noting that teachers have nothing to do with a child's safety. No "hero envy" (is that even a condition?) or anything (in fact, I don't even watch the commercials--I read and reread and highlight the actual bill), just a simple post to point out that you don't always say the most intelligent things in your rantings. Consider it fact-checking and nothing more. As for your further rants, I have stated before that there are MANY things within SB5 that don't harm children and are in fact GOOD for children. However, there's a lot of crap within the bill that is more than enough reason to vote the bill DOWN so that a better one can be drafted, revised, passed, and enacted.

Adam C. Miller November 04, 2011 at 03:02 AM
Gotta vote YES! When Jimmy Hoffa is making $200,000+ and spending millions on campaigns... Give the union dues back to the WORKERS!
Donald R. Thompson November 04, 2011 at 03:54 AM
Hoffa leads a primarily PRIVATE SECTOR UNION- The Teamsters
Chriss November 04, 2011 at 04:25 AM
Get a life man. Go check out what CEOs take home. Go check out what Kasik's staff is pulling in. At least Hoffa IS fighting for the people against the corporate PIGS.
Adam C. Miller November 04, 2011 at 04:56 AM
Give the $$$ back to the workers!!!

I totally agree. It's a shame that so many Americans follow blindly without taking the time and investing in their community to read, educate and participate in the future of the cities in which they live. But then they are the first to stand up and shout and cry and moan when something happens they don't like. Sad Sad Sad.
