Plan to Close Route 82 for Repairs is Delayed

The plan to close State Route 82 for two weeks this summer to repair a Royalton Road culvert has been delayed.

The project was expected to begin following Brecksville Home Days, but it seems the weather hasn’t cooperated much with the contractors doing the work.

City officials discussed the road closure — and how the contractors violated the terms of the agreement to begin the project — at a recent city council committee meeting.

The entire project will take a few months, and the road will be closed during the first two weeks of construction. 

Because SR 82 is a main artery of traffic, city officials had hoped to have to have the closure wrapped up by the time school buses began routes.

The city is expected to have an answer this week as to when the closure — and the project — could begin.

Motorists are encouraged to take Old Royalton Road as a detour (see the attached map), or use Oakes Road and Highland Drive.

The failed culvert is causing some slippage and barriers have been erected to keep drivers away from the area until construction begins.

Earlier this year, city officials learned that the city is receiving a grant for $230,000 for construction costs from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
