Spending, Fundraising Low for this Year’s City Council Race

Incumbents raised and spent less than the other candidates.

The biggest spenders—and fundraisers—in the were the less familiar faces.

Candidates filed campaign finance reports with the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, showing their contributions and expenditures during the campaign for the Nov. 8, 2011 election. The post-general election reports were due on Dec. 16. Once the reports are audited, they will be available online. The figures below were pulled from the unaudited reports provided by the board of elections:

  • , who was the only new member voted onto council, raised $4,525, plus some in-kind contributions. She spent $3,470.81, mostly on printing costs.
  • , the other non-incumbent candidate, cited $2,160 in contributions—mostly donations she personally gave to the campaign—and some in-kind contributions. She spent $2,363.39. Ritter was not elected.
  • Incumbent , who was seeking his second council term, raised $1,575 and spent $1,671.52.
  • The other incumbents raised and spent less than $1,000. collected $611.95, including $186.95 from himself, and spent $614.37. raised $125 and some in-kind contributions and spent $420.
