Corporations are not People & Money is not Speech - petition drive - please help

     A group of concerned Brecksville people started a group called "Brecksville Citizens for Transparent Politics".   Our goal is to get a citizen’s initiative petition on the Nov 2012 ballot that states that "Corporations are not People & money is not speech".  We need to gather approx 1,000 signatures by July 25th in order to get this on the ballot.  This movement is for the City of Brecksville only.  

     We started this group in response to the unlimited, undisclosed funds that are flooding our political system.  Domestic corporations, foreign corporations, millionaires & billionaires are now using their funds to buy our democracy without disclosure.  Our individual voices have been drowned out.  This is a non-partisan issue.  Fully 70% of the people polled agree that we need a 28th amendment that eliminates “corporate personhood” and the concept that “money = speech”.  Our elected officials are trapped in a corrupt system that requires them to spend 80+% of their time raising money rather than solving the problems of our country.  We won’t get money out of politics unless we take action at the grass roots level.  We Brecksville residents who are so blessed with a great life can actively work, in our own small way, to send a message to our local, state & federal representatives that we demand a change in the status quo!

     We need to collect 1,000 signatures by July 25th.  Time is short and we need all the help we can get.  If you can spare any time to collect signatures please let me know at rrpets@sbcglobal.net.  We are having an official kick-off on July 7th from 9 – 12 at my home 6607 Morningside Drive.  Please join usfor a few hours.  Otherwise, I have petitions available if anyone would like to pick one up and have their Brecksville friends & neighbors sign the petition.

     One last thing:  In addition to feeling as if ordinary people have lost the ability to influence our government, I feel the current environment of wall-to-wall negative
