Voter Suppression rears its ugly head, again, in Ohio

Laws to further restrict voter access to the polls will be voted on this coming week in the Ohio Senate & House

The Ohio Legislature is at it again.  They are trying to make it harder for Ohio citizens to exercise their most important right in our democracy.

The Legislature has passed two bills to further erode our access to the polls in advance of the 2014 & 2016 elections.

They passed a bill to cut early voting from 35 days to 28 days.  The passed another to eliminate the "golden week" that allows Ohioans to register & vote the same day.  As a reminder, these changes were instituted to help defray the longs lines & long hours that people had to endure in the 2008 election (wait times up to 10 hrs in minority communities).  These bills are trying to be passed because of non-existent "voter fraud".

With regard to the "voter fraud" canard, I'd like to point out the following:

That’s how much voter fraud there was in Ohio last year, according to a report released by Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted. Out of about 5.63 million votes cast in a presidential election in this key swing state, there were 135 possible voter-fraud cases referred to law enforcement for more investigation.  And, only 1 conviction out of those 135 that was referred for further action.

If you care about the democratic process please call your Ohio senator & house representative and ask them to vote NO on these two egregious bills which are up for another vote this coming week.  Rather than work against the voters of Ohio, why don’t they get to work bringing good paying jobs to our state?  Ohio ranking among all the states on quality-of-life factors is abysmal.
