Board of Education OK's School District's 5-Year Forecast

The district now looks to collect about $30,000 more than expected, and spend about $1.1 million less.

The five-year financial outlook for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District is looking slightly better than the one passed in October 2012.

The district now looks to take in about $30,000 more than expected, and spend about $1.1 million less.

There are a few reasons for that, said district treasurer Rick Berdine.

“It looks better than the fall version due to the assumptions made about possible improvements in state funding for foundation, casino, and Tangible Personal Property Replacement revenues, in addition to anticipated expenditure savings,” said Berdine.

The district’s board of education OK’d the new five-year forecast at its meeting on Monday.

Berdine said the recent passage of the 7.4-mill renewal levy doesn’t have any impact “as it continues the same funding stream that exists.”

“It was a renewal levy so it didn't create any additional revenue, thus didn't impact this forecast at all.”

“The forecast is good news as there was no way to predict back in the Fall that the State budget would be favorable for us, or most districts in the State, for that matter.”

Berdine said he remains optimistic that assumptions in the forecast hold, as the state finalizes its own budget sometime before June 30.
