Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education Honors Teachers, Students

The board addressed a number of issues during its meeting on Monday.

While much of Monday’s Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education meeting , there was also plenty of other news. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • The Parent School Organization presidents gave their reports for the year to the board. Each school in the district has a Parent School Organization led by a building president and run by volunteers. This year’s PSO Council President, Kathy Moock, said the volunteers gave more than 40,000 hours to the district during the school year. Most of the future plans focused on getting the organizations and the schools more technologically savvy.
  • The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Education Association named Terri Neff this year’s “BEA Friend of Education.” Association President Bonnie Monteleone gave the award, citing Neff’s “belief in possibility” as one of the reasons she was named. Neff is a former Board of Education member and a former teacher who said she was currently in school to get her license reinstated.
  • The board also recognized this year’s Master Teachers—there were six across the district—and three students who were recently recognized for their work with students with disabilities.
  • The board approved the list of 2011 graduates, and Superintendent Scot Prebles offered his congratulations to the students.
  • The board approved a new Timely Retirement Incentive Plan that employees can opt into. The first plan, which has now ended, offered more money for teachers who decided to retire early, Prebles said. This is a second version, also agreed upon by the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Education Association. Staff who want to opt into this plan must do so by June 30, Prebles added.
  • The board agreed to a tuition increase for the BeeKeepers childcare program for next year.
