Brecksville-Broadview Heights’ Goals for the Year: Increased Collaboration, Communication

Scot Prebles has only been the superintendent of the for a little more than a year, but he’s already seen , and .

“It’s been a tough year as far as reductions are concerned, as far as finances are concerned,” Prebles said.

But everyone in the district is committed to making every dollar count, he said. And he knows that the won’t remain without hard work. The community expects both fiscal responsibility and good academic performance, he said.

“And we have to deliver,” Prebles said. “That’s just the bottom line.”

Here’s a quick look at how the district plans to achieve those measures this year:

• The district will make sure each grade is aligned, beginning in kindergarten up through 12th grade, and making sure the progress in each grade builds upon the last.
• The professional learning communities are connected to the first goal and help build consistency through the district. Teachers work together in groups, taking time to discuss what’s helping students to learn and sharing what’s working and what's not. The district is keeping minutes from these conversations, Prebles said.
