Brecksville-Broadview Heights to Host EdCamp This Summer

EdCamp Cleveland wants educators to attend an “unconference” this summer.

EdCamps started a few years ago in Philadelphia and quickly spread across the country, said John Schinker, director of technology for the . Brecksville-Broadview Heights is helping to sponsor EdCamp Cleveland by letting the educators planning it use its building. The event will take place on June 15 at the .

The idea behind EdCamps is that the time spent in-between sessions at regular conferences when people are making contacts and sharing ideas is the most productive, Schinker said. EdCamps make that the entire conference.

The event is free for participants and there is no set agenda. Participants bring ideas for what they would like to learn and what they could teach others, and the group builds the schedule at the beginning of the day.

“From then on, people vote with their feet,” Schinker said.

The event isn’t just for teachers—it’s open to anyone interested in education, from preschool to college, private schools to public schools.

So far, more than 100 people have signed up, and there are a dozen sponsors, including Brecksville Patch. To learn more about EdCamp Cleveland and how you can take part, visit the website.
