Candidates File to Run for Mayor, City Council, School Board

The current mayor is unopposed. Incumbents in all other races face some competition.

The petition filing deadline for candidates for the Nov. 8, 2011 election was Wednesday. In Brecksville, there are elections at the city and the school district level. 

In the mayor’s race, Jerry N. Hruby is going for his seventh consecutive term, according to the city’s website. He is the only candidate who filed. 

But people running for City Council or a spot on the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education won't have as easy of a campaign.

Five people have filed for the four open City Council seats in the Nov. 8 election. 

Gerald F. Broski, Louis N. Carouse and Michael Harwood have all filed for re-election, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections. Current President Larry J. Potla did not file.

The other candidates listed on the board’s website are Laura C. Redinger and Constance Ritter. 

And six individuals will vie for three open Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education positions, according to the board of election’s website. The incumbents are current President George J. Balasko and Kathleen Mack, who both filed. The other open seat belongs to Alan Scheufler, who did not file a petition. 

The other candidates are:

  • Dave Garee
  • Richard G. Putka
  • Michael J. Ziegler
