Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Gathering Input from Community for Future Plans

The first "Vision 8" meeting took place earlier today in Brecksville.

When Celena Roebuck, the new superintendent of the , this spring, she said one of her main goals was to get community members more involved with the center.

This morning, that goal started to take shape.

Roebuck and Board of Education members are talking with government, business and school leaders in each of the eight communities the center serves in what they’re calling “Vision 8” meetings. The goal, Roebuck said, is to get input to take back to the Board of Education, where they will use it to help shape the center’s next strategic plan.

Roebuck started by giving a short presentation on the center and was available to answer the group’s questions. Board member George J. Balasko and Patricia Coyne, a program developer at the center, were also there to help lead the discussion.

Much of the first meeting covered the basics of the center, but attendees also took some time to talk about where the center could change or improve. Many noted that vocational education had changed a lot since they were in school, something people might still not realize. There was also a conversation about the need to get students thinking about different careers, like science, at younger ages.
