District Says Goodbye to Outgoing School Board Members

The board took some time during Tuesday's meeting to honor George J. Balasko and Alan Scheufler.

was the last regular meeting for members George J. Balasko and Alan Scheufler, and the community made sure the milestone didn’t go unnoticed.

The two will be leaving at the end of the year after eight years of service on the board. Scheufler , and current President Balasko ran but .

The board and Superintendent Scot Prebles took some time out of Tuesday’s meeting in the to thank the men for their work over the years on issues ranging from improving safety in the district to making Chinese part of the curriculum.

Both are committed to serving young people, Prebles said, and both were committed to watching performance in all areas of the district.

"... You have kept the bar high, and I appreciate that," Prebles said.

Scheufler and Balasko also took some time to thank the community and share their thoughts.

“All of you have a hand in making this an excellent school district,” Balasko said, referencing everyone from the teachers to the bus drivers to the superintendent.

Scheufler encouraged the board members to be consistent going forward, giving voters, students and staff a foundation they can rely on. He also reminded them to set goals and then get out of the way, empowering the people in the district to find the best way to make those goals happen.

“We have good, good people in this school district,” Scheufler said.
