Five Decisions Made by the Board of Education This Week

It was a busy week for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District. Here are some of the highlights.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights School Board had a busy week, approving several issues at its two meetings.

We thought we’d highlight some of the measures.

  1. The board voted to place a combined renewal levy measure on the Nov. 5 ballot. It’s a renewal. That means that homeowners’ taxes aren’t expected to go up. According to the resolution, the 6.3-mill levy is necessary “for the purpose of current operating expenses, and the acquisition, construction, enlargement, renovation, and financing of general, ongoing permanent improvements for the school district.”
  2. Mary Catherine Cook, the district’s nutrition services supervisor, was rehired. She was able to retire, and was “interested in working here or somewhere,” said district treasurer Rick Berdine. “The administration and Board wanted to retain her services given her track record of performance with the District.”
  3. The board voted to increase the general fund appropriations from $46,748,288 to $47,028,488.
  4. The district will change some of its policies and procedures to get the schools in-line with state guidelines. The measure was largely considered a housekeeping item. Click here to see the list of changes.
  5. Also, on side note, the board recently agreed to lease the Highland Drive Elementary baseball field to the city of Brecksville for $1 per year. The city will maintain the cost of upkeep and make some improvements to the baseball diamond.
