Hilton and Highland Drive Schools to Make Up One Calamity Day

The schools' last day for the year will be on June 10 instead of June 9.

Students and staff at and will have to make up one calamity day at the end of this school year. 

School districts in Ohio have five calamity days – days where school can be cancelled for inclement weather or other emergencies. That number was increased from at the beginning of the year districts had been used to in the past. Still, the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District used all five of those days this year for .  

Hilton and Highland Drive were each closed an additional day for non-weather emergencies, according to a press release from the district. There was a water problem at Highland Drive in the fall and an at Hilton in the spring.

To make up that additional day, Hilton and Highland Drive students will have a full day of class on June 9—a shortened day for the rest of the district—and a three-hour day on June 10. According to the press release, normal transportation will be provided.
