It's Official: 6.3 Mill Renewal Levy Heading to November Ballot

If passed, the combined levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home approximately $192 each year, however district officials are quick to point out that it wouldn't cost residents additional money.

It’s now official.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights School Board has approved the second required resolution that would ask voters in the district to approve a 6.3-mill, five-year combined operating and permanent improvement levy.

It would be a renewal levy, first passed by voters in 2004.

And it wouldn't cost residents additional money.

There are two resolutions required by the board in order to place the levy on the ballot.

The first one, passed at the last meeting, was the Resolution of Necessity to levy the renewal tax.

The second — unanimously approved by the board at its meeting on Monday — is the Resolution to Proceed with the election of the question of the renewal tax.

Both measures are required under Ohio law.

If passed, the combined levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home approximately $192 each year, said district treasurer Rick Berdine.

However, district officials are quick to point out that it wouldn't cost resident additional money because it's a renewal.

In May, voters in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District passed a 7.4-mill renewal levy.

According to the resolution, 5.3 mills would be apportioned for current operating expenses, while the remaining 1 mill would apportioned for “acquisition, construction, enlargement, renovation, and financing of general, ongoing permanent improvements for the school district.”
