Look for a Renewal Levy on the Ballot in August
The levy costs homeowners about $158 a year per $100,000 of home value. Taxes would not go up if the renewal levy passed.
The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education has decided to put a 6.8-mill renewal levy on the ballot in August.
The levy, which was first approved in 1997, brings in more than $5 million per year for the district and expires at the end of 2012.
“This would be devastating if it did not pass,” said treasurer/chief financial officer Karen E. Obratil.
Part of the levy goes to the district’s permanent improvement fund—which is used for renovations and repairs—and the majority goes to the general fund. The renewal would be good for three years.

The board had and approved the first official step to putting it on August’s ballot on Monday. The county’s fiscal officer will now certify the total tax value of the district.
Board President David Tryon said the board appreciates the community’s support in the past, and that he hopes they will continue to be generous.
