School Board Eyes 6.3-Mill Combined Renewal Levy

According to the resolution, the levy is necessary "for the purpose of current operating expenses, and the acquisition, construction, enlargement, renovation, and financing of general, ongoing permanent improvements for the school district."

Clarification: The proposed measure would be a renewal levy.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights School Board is considering a resolution that would ask voters in the district to approve a 6.3-mill, five-year combined operating and permanent improvement levy.

It would be a renewal levy, first passed by voters in 2004.

The board is expected to vote on the measure at its meeting on Monday or on July 25 — or both.

The combined levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home approximately $192 each year, said district treasurer Rick Berdine.

In May, voters in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District passed a 7.4-mill renewal levy.

According to the resolution, 5.3 mills would be apportioned for current operating expenses, while the remaining 1 mill would apportioned for “acquisition, construction, enlargement, renovation, and financing of general, ongoing permanent improvements for the school district.”

If the board OKs the measure, the resolution would be sent to the board of elections to appear on the Nov. 5 ballot.
