The Cuyahoga Valley Career Center Serves Lunch to the Community

The event lets people learn more about the center and gives students some real-life experience.

This Friday, lunch is on the .

The center’s Career Development Department is hosting its “Soup with a Supe” event from noon to 1 p.m. on Feb. 25.  The lunch includes free soup, salad and dessert made by students in the school’s culinary program, and the superintendent, or “supe,” will present information about the center’s different programs.

“It’s very low-key,” said community liaison Bridget Murphy.

Murphy said the regular event began about five years ago, and the center hosts about one every month. No one is turned away if there’s room, but the lunches often have a target audience. This month’s lunch is being advertised at parents, but anyone is welcome, Murphy said.

“It’s a nice way for people to learn about us,” Murphy said.

The event allows the community to learn more about the center’s programs for high school students and its adult education programs and classes, Murphy said. It also gives the students in the culinary program good experience in a low-stress environment. It’s busier than they may be used to, but there’s less pressure when people aren’t paying for their meals, Murphy said.

The lunch will be held in the restaurant at the center, which is located in the back of the school.

People are welcome to take a school tour after the lunch, but it’s not mandatory. Reservations are required and must be in by the end of Tuesday. To register, email or call Murphy at 440-746-8127.
