Video: Central School Shoots Some “Hoops for Heart”

The school took part in a national fundraiser this week.

Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt believe students should learn to be healthy and active for their whole lives.

The physical education teachers at try to instill this message in a variety of ways, including by taking part in fun programs like “Hoops for Heart.” The program, which benefits the American Heart Association, allows students to get active, engage in some friendly competition and raise money for a good cause. Last year, Doyle said the school raised more than $14,000.

Students took part in the program on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Watch the video to see some examples of the “lightning tournaments,” as well as learn more about the program. Doyle and Profitt also have more information, including the winners of this week’s lightning tournaments, on their website. Each physical education class holds its own tournament.

Check back soon to see how much the students raised this year!
