Bees Gymnasts, Wrestlers Headed to States This Weekend

The girls and boys basketball teams will also compete.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnastics team is fighting for its 9th state championship in a row this Friday and Saturday.

But they’re not the only Bees facing some tough competition this weekend. Here’s a quick look at what athletes will be doing this weekend.

Gymnastics:
Yes, you read that right above—the team is going for its 9th state championship in a row. They've already won both the sectionals and district competitions this year, said athletic director Dan Kalinsky.

Wrestling:
Six wrestlers will take part in the state competition Thursday, Friday and Saturday. According to the wrestling team’s website, they are:

  • Aaron Assad
  • Quinton Hiles
  • Andrew Barr
  • Austin Linden
  • Josh Murphy
  • Austin Assad, who was the district champion in the 106-pound bracket

Boys basketball:
Kalinsky said the team’s overall record is 16-4. The team will face Strongsville in the sectional finals at 6 p.m. on Friday at Midview High School. You can read more about the team and get recaps on recent games on its website.

Girls basketball:
The girls team ended the season 14-8, Kalinsky said. They play Medina in the sectional finals at Valley Forge High School at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
