Human Services Department Looking for Volunteer Drivers

Volunteers help local seniors around town.

Looking for a way to give back?

Here’s one idea. The is looking for volunteer drivers.

The city put out a press release Monday, saying that there is a shortage of drivers. The drivers take local seniors on a variety of errands and trips, including medical appointments, grocery store stops and mall outings.

Volunteers typically dedicate one day a month from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., but volunteers are welcome to sign up for more. The drivers use city vehicles, and volunteers should be comfortable driving on the freeway and driving in inclement weather.

The city especially needs drivers for its 14-passenger bus, according to the release. Drivers do not need a special license to drive the bus, but the department asks that volunteers be able to strap in the wheelchairs.
