Kiwanis Club of Brecksville to Host Horse Show on August 7

The all-day fundraiser benefits community causes.

The Kiwanis Club of Brecksville's 64th horse show that draws riders from all over Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania starts at 8 a.m. August 7 in the Metroparks Ford Area off Riverview Road.

The show will have two rings of horses, concession stands, pony rides and stick horse stations. The stations will allow children to build simple stick horses and run around the ring like riders.

Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. Box seating for six is $60 a box, said Mike Memmer, Kiwanis member of about 20 years and co-chair of the show.

The hunter-jumper ring opens at 8 a.m. and houses obstacle courses for horses and their riders to maneuver in front of an audience. Performances and judging usually wrap up around 6 p.m. in this ring.

The main ring opens at 9 a.m. and hosts mostly show horses. First place winners receive a silver plate with a depiction of a Brecksville landmark. This year it is the Squire Rich Home. This event runs to about 9 p.m., Memmer said.

And around 5 p.m., the Northern Ohio Outlaws will put on a show.

“They ride very fast and fire pistols with blanks at balloons that are on stationary targets as they ride around the ring, and they are all dressed up like cowboys,” Memmer said.

And Kiwanis President Kevin Brusk said the money raised at the show is given to a variety of causes in the community.

These causes can include anything from supporting an Eagle Scout’s project to donating to Meals on Wheels to scholarships for graduating seniors at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.

If unable to attend the show, fundraising opportunities are still available. Though it is too late to place an advertisement in the program, businesses or individuals can still sponsor a trophy or ribbon. For more information, call Memmer at 440-526-6308.
