Yuletide Hunger Program Helps Local Families

The donations were distributed this weekend.

While the , by the time Saturday came around, there was plenty of food for each family to take home.

β€œThe community has stepped up wonderfully,” said volunteer Judy Lewis of Broadview Heights.

The sorting began on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, officials were putting out the word that they still needed more food to give to the 146 families who signed up this year. The supports families in need in Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills and Independence during the holidays. Lewis said the community responded, and they even received donations from outside the service area.

On Saturday, families stopped by Blossom Hill to pick up their food. The donations were separated into boxes, and the amount of food varied by the number of people in a household. A family of four would receive about six boxes of food, including fresh produce and bread, toiletries and canned goods.

Ted Lux, director of the , said there were also knit hats and other items for families from the Brecksville Handcrafters, and the Cleveland FoodBank sent a food stamp counselor to talk to the families about resources available to them.
