Yuletide Hunger Program Helps Those in Need for the Holidays
Monetary and food donations are now being accepted at the Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools and the Human Services Center.
If you are looking for a way to help others as the holidays and cold weather approach, the Yuletide Hunger Program started up this week and runs through the beginning of December.
The program, more than 25 years old, assists low-income families and individuals unable to meet their needs properly.
Food and monetary donations can be dropped off at Brecksville’s or one of until Dec. 6. Turkey certificates and gift cards to Giant Eagle, Aldi Supermarket and Kmart are bought with donated money.

“Plus, if we don’t receive enough donations of a certain kind of food, we’ll buy supplementary food,” said Ted Lux, Brecksville Human Services director.
Lux encourages students of all ages to bring either money, food or both to school in support of this mission. Once all of these donations are collected, food will then be distributed to recipients on Dec. 10.

The first-ever distribution began after the death of one Brecksville resident, Rusty Mansbery, according to the Brecksville Bulletin. Rusty’s brother, Dave, founded the Yuletide Hunger program as a way to thank the community for their support during his brother’s illness. The program now helps Brecksville, Broadview Heights, Seven Hills and Independence residents.
