Best Place in Town to Hear Live Music: Readers' Choice

Be it a rock 'n' roll band, solo violinist or jazz trio, live music energizes your outing.

There is no music like live music ... a live performance can be the background to a pleasant dinner or the focal point of an evening out. This week we want to know: where in town is the best place to hear live music? Is there a restaurant with strolling mariachi band? Or perhaps a harpist that plays at tea. Or maybe a rollicking rock venue that's a great place to socialize. Beginning today -- Sunday, May 20 -- and through 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, we'll be asking for your recommendations for places to hear live music. Give us your recommendation in the comments section below. With your help, we'll put together a list of nominees. Then look for our poll on Thursday, May 24 and vote! Officer Threatened & Nude High-Speed Chase: Best of the Blotter

The most bizarre police reports from departments throughout Northeast Ohio.

It seems there's no alleged crime too bizarre to occur in Northeast Ohio. Here are some of this week's weird calls and charges. All information was provided by police reports from departments in Patch communities. Threatening Words: Though an Akron man returned the clothing he tried to steal from Walmart, he still ended up in a Fairlawn Police cruiser. He also had some threatening words for the arresting officer. Derek Sampson, 50, tried to walk out of Walmart in Fairlawn on May 13 with three pairs of shorts. When a security officer confronted him, Sampson returned the items. Officers arrested him for theft when he tried to exit again. Once in the cruiser, Sampson told the officer, "You're a dead man … I don't talk to dead men." Read more …

Giant Eagle Takes Bagged Lettuce, Salads Off Shelf after Recall

Products may have been contaminated with Listeria

Giant Eagle is pulling Farmers Market bagged salad and lettuce with a "best by" date of May 12-22 from its shelves. The products may have been contaminated by Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious -- and sometimes fatal -- illness in children and older people. River Ranch Fresh Foods of California voluntarily recalled the products after learning of the possible contamination.  No illnesses have been reported. Click here for a complete list of the recalled Farmers Market products. Giant Eagle is calling customers who may have purchased the products between May 1 and May 18 and asking them to dispose of the lettuce or return it to the store for a refund. For more information, the company is telling customers to call 800-762-7708.

Photo of the Day: Teachers Walk Half-Marathon to Inspire Students

Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt spent Friday walking around Brecksville and Broadview Heights.

Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt walked a half-marathon around Brecksville and Broadview Heights on Friday to inspire students to be “healthy and active for a lifetime,” a phrase they have made part of their motto as physical education teachers at Central School. The walk is the teachers' way of helping to inspire the students' participation in the Hoops for Heart tournament. Students raised more than $8,000 for the American Heart Association in the tournament this year. After the walk, the students gathered on Central School’s lawn to listen to some speeches on the importance of being active from those who took part in the half-marathon, like Doyle and Broadview Heights Mayor Sam Alai. The walk is open to members of the community, who…

Who Has the Best Patio in Town?

Brecksville Patch readers voted for …

Creekside Restaurant and Bar! The restaurant won our poll by a landslide for its picturesque patio overlooking Chippewa Creek. Reader Dannie McGurk summed up the atmosphere well in a comment nominating Creekside: “I love the Creekside for brunch on a sunny summer Sunday morning. The birds and squirrels, the beautiful leafy trees, and Chippewa creek make a lovely setting.” Tell us what you like about Creekside’s patio in the comments! And don’t forget to check back on Sunday to nominate your favorites for next week’s Readers’ Choice. We’ll be looking for the best place to listen to live music.
