Photo of the Day: Teachers Walk Half-Marathon to Inspire Students

Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt spent Friday walking around Brecksville and Broadview Heights.

Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt walked a half-marathon around Brecksville and Broadview Heights on Friday to inspire students to be “healthy and active for a lifetime,” a phrase they have made part of their motto as physical education teachers at Central School. The walk is the teachers' way of helping to inspire the students' participation in the Hoops for Heart tournament. Students raised more than $8,000 for the American Heart Association in the tournament this year. After the walk, the students gathered on Central School’s lawn to listen to some speeches on the importance of being active from those who took part in the half-marathon, like Doyle and Broadview Heights Mayor Sam Alai. After Prom Tickets Will Be Sold Saturday

The event will still take place at the high school.

After prom will still take place at the high school this Saturday, but ticket sales have been extended due to a fire that closed the building on Friday. Volunteer Janet Fedak said in an email that many students were planning to buy tickets for after prom during school on Friday, so volunteers will be selling them on Saturday instead. The tickets will be sold from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school’s main entrance and at the door of after prom, beginning at 11:30 p.m. Students will need to bring a signed waiver form, which can be found on the district’s website. Exact change or checks would be appreciated, Fedak said. Tickets are $12.

Mock Car Crash Reminds Students of the Dangers of Driving Drunk

The presentation took place Wednesday morning at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School.

Students gathered in the bleachers at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Wednesday morning to watch local police, fire and EMS participate in a mock car crash. The presentation showed students what could happen in a drunk driving accident. The simulation took place just three days before the high school’s prom. “I don’t ever want that call,” Principal Joseph Mueller said to the students after the presentation. He noted that he has received such a call as principal twice before, reflecting on the grief felt in the community. He urged the students to use good judgment, not just on prom weekend, but also during graduation, over the summer, after football games—all the time. “Life is about choices,” Mueller said. “And we need you to …
