Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt spent Friday walking around Brecksville and Broadview Heights.
Larry Doyle and Stacy Kanaga Profitt walked a half-marathon around Brecksville and Broadview Heights on Friday to inspire students to be “healthy and active for a lifetime,” a phrase they have made part of their motto as physical education teachers at Central School. The walk is the teachers' way of helping to inspire the students' participation in the Hoops for Heart tournament. Students raised more than $8,000 for the American Heart Association in the tournament this year. After the walk, the students gathered on Central School’s lawn to listen to some speeches on the importance of being active from those who took part in the half-marathon, like Doyle and Broadview Heights Mayor Sam Alai. The walk is open to members of the community, who…

Brecksville-Broadview Heights handles Beaumont as seniors say goodbye
Senior Night for the Brecksville-Broadview Heights girls’ varsity lacrosse team came with cake, balloons, signs, and perhaps most importantly, a victory on Friday night. The Bees trampled Beaumont, 18-8, in a non-league matchup at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Stadium a few days before seedings are announced for the upcoming playoffs. Coach Scott Schneider expects the Bees (12-2) to receive a No. 2 seeding behind Ottawa Hills of Toledo in Division III competition. Beaumont (2-9) is in Division II. But before having to worry about the postseason pressure ahead of them, 12 seniors on the team waved goodbye to their high school careers, but hello to the future in front of them. Those Bees carrying their sticks for the last time …

And Patch had a blast at our draft party at Solon Panini's!
Patch came to Solon Panini's and cheered on the Browns as they drafted two offensive weapons. The Browns took running back Trent Richardson with the third pick -- they traded up from the fourth pick to snag the Alabama star -- and quarterback Brandon Weeden with the 22nd pick. We also signed up new readers for our daily e-mail newsletter, gave away some free appetizers and Panini's gift cards and generally had a good time! We hosted a live chat during the draft -- you can find the transcript here. Thanks to Solon Panini's for hosting our event! Go Browns!

Hi, Ron, Much as we'd like to have parties in each of our Patches, we don't have the staff to cover every one for an event like this, which will require at least four Patch employees to pull off. We'll be in Mentor for another type of event soon, and we hope you'll join us then. And we'd love to have you take part in our chat tonight. Thanks for commenting.   more ›
