4th of July: What’s Closed, Where to Find Fireworks and Cookout Tips

Happy Fourth of July!

City buildings, including City Hall and the Human Services Center, are closed today. According to the city’s calendar, the Community Center is open, but just from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Since city offices are closed, that means trash and recycling pickup will be a day late. Need to pick up some last-minute drinks or food for your cookout? Check here to see if your favorite store is open. Did you know that melon shouldn’t be eaten if it’s been left out for more than four hours? Make sure to stay safe at your barbecue with these tips. Everyone needs music at their get-together! Check out our patriotic playlist. Brecksville’s fireworks were last weekend, but if you’d like to see some more, check out our interactive map. We’ve listed fireworks …

Can I Buy Beer on the 4th of July?

Having a cookout today? Here's what you need to know before you head to the stores.

Even the best party planners can forget something. Or, you find out that your sister-in-law is bringing her new boyfriend to your 4th of July cookout. And his four children. And his mother. Now you need more food and drinks. Brecksville's only grocery store—Heinen's—will be closed on the 4th of July, but the new, 24-hour Giant Eagle in Broadview Heights will be open.  And if you need beer or other adult beverages, you're good. According to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, there are no restrictions on alcohol sales on the 4th of July. The Giant Eagle does have a liquor and beer section, but the Brecksville Bootlegger will be closed.

Listen: Your Favorite Songs for 4th of July Festivities

We asked you to submit your favorite patriotic tunes and created a Spotify playlist.

Happy 4th of July! Whether you plan to celebrate America's freedom by watching a parade or two, having a cookout, oohing and ahhing at fireworks or just hanging out by the pool, we wanted to make sure you had the soundtrack for it. Last week, we asked you to submit your favorite patriotic songs. We compiled them into a Spotify playlist and now we're giving it back to you. Note: To listen to the playlist, you must be a Spotify user. To play, click the "Play" button at the top of the list and it should launch your Spotify application. If the playlist doesn't load, try clicking "Play" with Spotify already open. Happy listening and have a great holiday!
