Here’s a quick look at some of the festive activities coming up around town: Update, Nov. 29: And the Yuletide Hunger Program has begun collecting food and donations. The annual Christmas parade and tree lighting took place Sunday afternoon.
Brecksville Road was lined with umbrellas and festive Santa hats Sunday afternoon for the city’s annual Christmas parade. The event began at 4 p.m., with the sounds of the marching band’s drummers and children’s excited squeals signaling the start. Local businesses and organizations like Girl Scout troops braved the rain to ride on floats and march down the street, passing out candy along the way. After the parade, the crowd gathered in Public Square to listen to a few carols and see the tree lighting. Did you snap a few photos during Sunday’s festivities? Brecksville kicks off the holiday season with its annual parade and tree lighting this weekend.
Auditions for Brecksville Theater on the Square’s production of August: Osage County continue tonight. According to the theater’s website, the auditions start at 7 p.m. According to the city’s calendar, this is the last week for leaf pick-ups. Collections for the Yuletide Hunger Program continue this week. And this is the last week for the Brecksville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library’s “fall storytimes.” According to the library’s website, the “storytimes” will begin again in January. Check the library's calendar for dates and times. The city’s annual Christmas parade and tree lighting will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, according to the city’s calendar.

Anyone can take part.
Applications for the city’s annual Christmas parade are due Tuesday at the Community Center. Carolyn Jatsek, who helps organize the parade, said anyone can participate. In the past, participants have included community organizations like Boy Scout troops, the marching band and local businesses. Application forms can be picked at the Community Center or filled out online. There was also a form included in the Holiday 2011 edition of the Brecksville Bulletin. Last year’s parade ended at City Hall for some special bicentennial programs, but Jatsek said they’re back to their traditional route this year. The parade will end with a tree lighting on Public Square, and there will be refreshments at the Brecksville United Methodist Church. The …
