Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Plays for the Community This Thursday

Thursday's concert starts the 2012 season early and honors the bicentennial.

The members of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra will bring their musical skills to the community this week with a special concert in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School auditorium. The concert serves as a warm up to the orchestra’s 2012 season at Severance Hall in Cleveland. James Feddeck will conduct the orchestra in numerous pieces, including one by Johann Sebastian Bach. “We have had the good fortune to being them out biannually since 2001 for this warm-up concert,” said Doug Huth, who is on the board of directors for the Kiwanis Club of Brecksville and chairperson of COYO relations. 5 Things You Need to Know This Week, Nov. 14 – 20

This week is filled with events.

City Council meets on Tuesday. The next World War II meeting at the Human Services Center is this Wednesday. The meetings explore different aspects of life during that time period. On Thursday, the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra will play at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. The Kiwanis Clubs of Brecksville and Broadview Heights and the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District music department sponsor the event, and the proceeds go to the music programs in the district and to scholarships for students. This is the last weekend to see the Brecksville Theater on the Square’s production of Annie. There are shows on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Brecksville Kiwanis' Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra Concert Benefits Local Students

The money raised by the event is used for scholarships and gifts to the school district’s music departments.

The Kiwanis Club of Brecksville exists to give back to the community, and the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra concert it’s helping to host in November is no exception. The concert, which is also being hosted by the Broadview Heights Kiwanis and the high school’s music department, raises money for the district’s music department and scholarships for students, said Doug Huth, a Kiwanis member who is overseeing the committee that’s putting on the concert. The organization recently gave $1,000 to the high school music department and $500 to the middle school music department for the 2009 Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra concert, Huth said.
