5 Things You Need to Know This Week, Jan. 9 – 15

From events at the library to a Board of Education meeting, there’s plenty going on this week.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education has its first meeting of the year on Monday. The new members will take their oath of office during the meeting. On Tuesday, author Taylor Stevens will visit the Brecksville branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. Registration is required. The next “Coffee with the Superintendent” starts at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Check the district’s website for more details. Celebrate the Chinese New Year at the library on Saturday. According to the library’s website, the festivities will include snacks, stories and other activities. This is the last week for the city’s Christmas tree pick-up. Check the service department’s website for guidelines.

This Month’s “Coffee With the Superintendent” Set for Dec. 19

The events give community members a chance to interact with the superintendent.

The next “Coffee with the Superintendent” is set for Dec. 19 at the Coffee Club in Broadview Heights, according to the district’s website. The informal events give community members a chance to meet with and talk to Brecksville-Broadview Heights Superintendent Scot Prebles. The monthly events began in September, and the location and time varies. Cathy Harbinak, the coordinator of community relations for the district, said in an email that the meetings so far have attracted small groups of about five or so people. The attendees have covered a variety of topics, from state funding for schools to curriculum offerings at the high school to transportation. December’s event will begin at 11:30 a.m. and last until 1 p.m.

5 Things You Need to Know This Week, Nov. 7 – 13

From the election to Veteran’s Day, there's a lot going on around town.

Election Day is Tuesday. Check out our Election Central page for a look at the local candidates and issues on the ballot, or try our voter guide to compare them side-by-side. The next “Coffee With the Superintendent” is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the McDonald’s in Brecksville, according to the district’s website.  Brecksville Theater on the Square’s production of Annie continues this week, with shows on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Veteran’s Day is Friday, and according to a press release from the city, city offices, including City Hall and the Service Department, will be closed. Also in honor of Veteran’s Day, the Chippewa Garden Club will be dedicating a memorial marker to men and women who have served the country …
