Fall begins this week and berries, apples and pumpkins are ripe for the picking.
The arrival of fall marks the beginning of harvest season. It’s a great time of year to enjoy the outdoors by visiting a farm and picking your own produce, visiting a farmer's market or taking a hayride. Here are some farms to visit in our area. 1. Heavenly Hill Farm, North Royalton Owner Cindy Ellis says you can pick your own apples for $0.79 per pound. The Kid's Special for $6.22 consists of a hayride, bounce house, corn maze, and they get to pick a small pumpkin. Varieties of apples are available. Visiting farmer's markets is an interesting way to shop and support local farmers as well.
Summertime means that farmer’s markets will be open again for the growing season. Visiting a farmer’s market can be a fun family outing, and it’s a great way to get locally grown produce, eggs, meat and more. Some have live music, chefs, art and jewelry. Here are some farmer’s markets near Brecksville: 1. Countryside Farmers' Market at Howe Meadow. Located at 4040 Riverview Road, Peninsula, Ohio. Deal: Depending on what’s in season, you might find organic and heirloom produce, fresh flowers, poultry, eggs, fruit, maple syrup and much more. FreshFork Market is our favorite, although it's not a traditional farmers' market. It's a CSA-based program, where you receive a bag of pre-selected, locally grown produce each week.
