VIDEO: Brecksville High Gymnast Leads Team to 10th State Title

Brecksville-Broadview Heights freshman Alecia Farina helped the gymnastics team capture its 10th consecutive OHSAA state championship.

For the 10th year in a row, the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Girls Gymnastics team won the OHSAA state championship. The latest win -- which came March 1 at Hilliard Bradley High School -- sets an all-time record, according to www.bbhcsd.org. This is the school's 13th overall gymnastics state title. High School Gymnastics Team Wins 10th Consecutive District Championship

Winning every event in the competition, Bees gymnasts Jessica Matia, Michaela Romito and Alecia Farina were among those lauded by the Plain Dealer.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights gymnastics team walked away from Saturday's district competition in Painesville with their 10th straight championship, reported the Plain Dealer. City Honors Bees Gymnasts with New Sign, Proclamations

Council also took time to recognize retiring Coach Ron Ganim.

As City Council President Greg Skaljac said, honoring the gymnastics team is “obviously becoming a tradition here.” Brecksville City Council took some time to recognize the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School gymnastics team during Tuesday’s meeting, commending them on their hard work and their 9th state championship win in a row. All in all, Mayor Jerry N. Hruby said, the Bees haven’t lost a single meet since 2003, leaving the team with a record of 696-0. Council also took some time to recognize Coach Ron Ganim, who is retiring this year. Hruby called Ganim a great teacher, coach, family man and mentor. “He’s done it all,” Hruby said. Quoted: Gymnastics Coach Ron Ganim on Retiring

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education honored the coach earlier this week.

"The girls have taught me more than I’ve taught them,” Coach Ron Ganim said at the school board meeting on Monday. Ganim is retiring after coaching the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School gymnastics team for more than 30 years. Ganim used to coach football, as well, but joked that he was too immature to learn lessons there. He said it was the gymnasts who taught him about perseverance and goal-setting.
