John F. Lipaj, 87, Architect, Designed Churches, Schools and Community Centers
He designed St. John the Baptist Byzantine Rite Cathedral in Parma and served on MetroHealth Medical Center's board of trustees.
John F. Lipaj designed St. John the Baptist Byzantine Rite Cathedral in Parma and numerous other churches, schools and community centers in Greater Cleveland during his more than 40 years as an architect. The Brecksville resident, who died Dec. 15 at age 87, also drew the plans for Arlington Elementary School and the St. Columbkille church/school complex in Parma. Lipaj, who was born in Portage, PA, graduated from Lakewood High School in 1941. He was inducted into the school's distinguished alumni hall of fame in 2000. Following his service as a pilot with the Army Air Forces during World War II, he enrolled at Ohio State University. He graduated in 1950. Lipaj founded his own architectural firm, John F.
