5 Things You Need to Know This Week, Oct. 10 – 16

From a school board meeting to a clambake and a local play, there’s plenty going on this week.

The next “Coffee with the Superintendent” will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday at the Coffee Club in Broadview Heights, according to the district’s website. The Human Services Center is hosting an art show this week, beginning Monday. The show will feature the work of art students and the instructor at the center, according to information from the city. The show is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education is holding a special meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the agenda, the board will recognize the National Merit semifinalists and commended scholars and will hear a presentation from the Community Awareness and Prevention Association. Brecksville Little Theatre's Production of "Mister Roberts" Begins Friday

Veterans and members of the military can attend for free on opening night.

Brecksville Little Theatre’s latest show, Mister Roberts, begins this weekend. The play is set on a Navy cargo ship during World War II. Director Judi Kaye said that since it’s a military show, they wanted to find a way to honor those who have served or are serving the country. So on Friday--opening night--veterans and members of the military can attend for free, Kaye said. The play is a popular one, said stage manager Dina Collova, and the cast has come from all over the region. Brecksville Little Theatre has produced this show in the past -- in fact, it's the first show Kaye was ever involved in. Auditions for Brecksville Little Theatre’s Next Show to be Held Next Week

The auditions will take place Monday and Tuesday at the Blossom complex.

Brecksville Little Theatre will hold auditions for its next production, Mister Roberts, at 7 p.m. on July 11 and 12 at the theater’s Blossom location. The theater put on this show about 50 years ago, said director Judi Kaye – she remembers because it was the first performance she was ever part of. Kaye’s father was an actor in the production and Kaye, who was 11 or 12 at the time, spent time behind the scenes at the show. Kaye said she was “really honored” to be chosen to direct this particular production. She wants to pay tribute to both the men in the show and those in the service, she said.
