The rating system helps the city plan for years to come, said Gerald Broski, chair of the …

City to Receive Grant for State Route 82 Repairs

The grant could cover all of the project’s costs.

A planned repair to state Route 82 will now cost the city a lot less than expected. In fact, it might not cost the city anything at all. The city needs to repair a failed culvert running under Royalton Road, a plan that began moving forward this fall. During Tuesday’s City Council meeting at City Hall, members learned that the city is receiving a grant for $230,000 for construction costs from the Ohio Department of Transportation. The department is providing another $23,000 to the city for construction management costs. The money is coming from the department’s Geologic Site Management Program. City Engineer Gerald Wise said the grant could cover all of the project’s costs. If construction costs go above the grant amount, the city will be …

Brecksville City Council Approves Increasing Funds for Road Program, Purchases for Police, Service Departments

For more details on the issues discussed during Tuesday’s City Council meeting, check Brecksville Patch later this week.

Brecksville City Council addressed a number of financial issues during Tuesday night’s meeting at City Hall, approving purchases for the Service Department and Police Department, shifting more money to future road repair programs and voting to adjust the city’s budget for 2011. Council approved some additional spending: The police department will receive some new computers, and the service department will get a new rubbish packer and a lift truck. Members also approved an increase in the blanket purchase orders for the city’s natural gas, water and sewer costs. But overall, the adjustment to the appropriations ordinance approved by council on Tuesday actually lowers expected spending for the year, mostly because some jobs weren’t filled as…

On Thursday, members of council toured the streets that are likely to see repairs next year.

Members of Brecksville’s City Council toured the city this afternoon, taking a closer look at the roads targeted for improvements in 2012. The members of the streets and sidewalks committee, along with the mayor, city administrators and some other council members, met in City Hall on Thursday afternoon to discuss the draft and estimated costs of the 2012 road project. After a brief discussion, some of the members headed out, comparing spots that were recently updated to those on the list for next year. The project is still just a proposal at this time, but Director of Public Services Ron Weidig said he hopes the plan goes before council in November. This year’s road project was passed in December 2010. If the draft is implemented as is, it…

Brecksville City Council Approves More Money for Road Repairs

Check Brecksville Patch on Wednesday for more City Council news.

Brecksville City Council approved changes to the city’s appropriations ordinance for 2011 during Tuesday’s meeting.  The adjustments reflect both decreases and increases in spending, from lower costs for the city’s share in a construction project to additional spending for road repairs for the city, said Finance Director Virginia Price.  Council also approved expenses needed to move forward on the bicentennial memorial project and honored a resident who recently earned his Eagle Scout designation.  For more details on these resolutions and other news from the council meeting, check Brecksville Patch on Wednesday.
