The dining room in the Brecksville Human Services Center was full Tuesday afternoon as people gathered to honor Frank DeWolf and Midge Cassidy as this year’s Senior Volunteers of the Year. Mayor Jerry N. Hruby noted that the volunteers had truly dedicated themselves to the bicentennial celebration, among their many other volunteer activities. Cassidy volunteers at “organization after organization, event after event,” and DeWolf has always made sure things are done right, Hruby said. Both addressed the crowd, introducing their families and thanking those responsible for the honor. The annual event—this is the 40th pair of honorees—is run by the city and the Kiwanis Club of Brecksville. DeWolf reflected on the former honorees who had …

Frank DeWolf, Midge Cassidy Named Senior Volunteers of the Year

Both will be honored at an annual luncheon at the Human Services Center.

This year’s Senior Volunteers of the Year were influential in the city’s bicentennial celebration. The Brecksville Human Services Center and the Kiwanis Club of Brecksville have named Frank DeWolf and Midge Cassidy this year’s honorees. DeWolf was a co-chair of the Brecksville Bicentennial Committee, and Cassidy was an honorary co-chair. The two also have a variety of other volunteer activities to their names. In addition to co-chairing the Bicentennial Committee, DeWolf is part of the Brecksville Historical Association and the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Alumni Association. He also served for more than 30 years on the Brecksville Fire Department. DeWolf was also named one of the Brecksville Chamber of Commerce’s Citizens of the Year, …

Brecksville Honors its Senior Volunteers of the Year

The annual event took place Tuesday afternoon.

Sylvia Fowler and Robert G. Petrushka joined the list of local volunteers honored as the senior volunteers of the year earlier today. After a lunch at the Human Services Center, Fowler and Petrushka were presented with a number of proclamations from the mayor’s office, the governor’s office and other government officials and with a clock from the Kiwanis Club of Brecksville.  Mayor Jerry N. Hruby thanked both individuals for their service. He also thanked the other volunteers in the room, noting that Brecksville wouldn’t be the same without its volunteers. “This city is such a wonderful place, and what makes it so wonderful is you,” Hruby told the crowd.
