Brecksville-Broadview Heights Again Earns Highest State Report Card Rating

The state has released the preliminary ratings for districts and schools.

The state has released the rest of the state report card information, and the news is good for Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools. While the data is still preliminary, as of now, the district has again achieved the highest possible state report card rating for the 2011-2012 school year: “Excellent with Distinction.” School and district report cards are usually released at the beginning of the school year, but that timeline has been pushed back while the state auditor investigates whether some districts manipulated attendance data. Some preliminary data—without the ratings—was released in late September. The final results and the PDFs of the report cards won’t be published until the state auditor’s investigation is done, according to the…

There are no overall ratings yet, but Brecksville-Broadview Heights parents, teachers and community members can take a look at how the district did on some of the important indicators like graduation rate and adequate yearly progress.

Traditional state report cards for local school districts have been delayed, but the Ohio Department of Education today released some preliminary data to give the public an idea of how their local school district performed last year. The information does not include an overall rating, such as “excellent” or “effective,” that the public is used to seeing. The state is investigating whether some districts manipulated attendance data and is holding off on releasing final report cards until that investigation is complete. The available information includes the percentage of students who scored proficient or higher on state tests and the graduation rates for the 2011-2012 school year report card. It also includes the value-added measure—which …

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education got a sneak peek of the district’s state report card on Monday—and the results are pretty good. School districts’ state report cards have been delayed this year while the state auditor investigates whether some districts manipulated attendance data. The Department of Education plans to release some of the relevant testing statistics at the end of the month, but overall ratings will be delayed until the investigation is complete. The state also does not plan to release performance index or attendance information at this time. Superintendent Scot Prebles gave a presentation to the school board during its meeting on Monday using information from the state’s Secure Data Center, which is not …

I think a better question for the State and the underperforming districts, is why aren't the results being used to determine placement the following year. Early on in the inception of the OPT (Ohio Prof. Tests), there was a "4th grade guarantee" which was designed to make sure that all children in the state of Ohio could not pass on to 5th grade without passing the 4th grade reading tests.
