From December 2011 through March 2012, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reports that there were 15,526 crashes on snow, ice or slush-covered roads. About 4,500 people were injured in these accidents, and 27 were killed. Speed was reported as a cause in 72 percent of those accidents. This is less than the year before, when there were 37,429 accidents during those months. When I asked on Brecksville Patch’s Facebook page what it looked like outside your home or office, Facebook friend Mark Kwasny claimed that Broadview Heights snow looked different than Brecksville snow—and he sent in some photos to prove his point! The snow and cold weather is supposed to return later this week.
The weather’s supposed to stay unseasonably warm on Wednesday, but that’s all expected to change by Thursday. The National Weather Service is predicting a switch from rain showers to snow starting Thursday afternoon—and those temperatures are expected to drop later this week. If winter decides to stick around this time, you’ll want to be prepared. Here are a few tips for keeping your home safe from Brecksville Fire Lt. Patrick Coleman: The Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness has some good tips on its website for getting your family ready for winter storms, including suggested supplies for a disaster kit.
