Brecksville-Broadview Heights Gymnastics Starts the Year Out Strong

The team has won its first two meets.

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Gymnastics season is underway, and it's already looking good for the Bees.  The team’s first two meets—Dec. 20 and Dec. 27—resulted in two wins.  That’s not surprising when a team has won the state competition nine times in a row, and more than half of the team is made up of returning seniors. “They are very dedicated athletes,” said Coach Joan Ganim.  It’s a big year for the seniors—there are 12 of them, and just 10 juniors, sophomores and freshmen.  The first few meets have been good for the gymnasts, judging from some numbers supplied by assistant coach Maria Schneider.  Senior Jessie Matia had the best score in the all-around at both—a 35.825 on Dec. 20 and a 36.8 on Dec. 27—and took the high scores at…

The Brecksville-Broadview Heights Board of Education took some time on Monday to recognize a few of the district’s successful students. Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Principal Joseph Mueller said the students’ accomplishments reflect the high expectations of the community, and that the students rise to those expectations with confidence. Annual “Beauty and the Beast” Competition to Take Place Friday Night

The event highlights two unique sports—gymnastics and wrestling—in one gymnasium.

Two of Brecksville-Broadview Heights' best-known teams are competing Friday night: the gymnastics and wrestling teams. How can a Bees fan choose between the two? This Friday, they don’t have to. Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is hosting its annual “Beauty and the Beast” competition, a combined gymnastics meet and wrestling match. One minute, a spectator might be watching a gymnast flip her way to victory. The next, they might be holding their breath as a wrestler fights his way to the final second of a match. “It’s a unique event in Ohio,” said Athletic Director Dan Kalinsky.
