Employees and Readers Share their Creekside Memories

Add yours in the comments.

Yesterday, Creekside Restaurant and Bar celebrated its 20th anniversary. The celebration continues all month for the Brecksville staple. I asked the owners, employees and customers to share some of their memories from the restaurant. Owner Matt Harper said that the memory that stands out most for him was a story he’d already told to Brecksville Patch—the story of how the community came together for the fundraiser for the Moskal family. William Moskal was Harper’s neighbor who died in the attacks on Sept. 11. Here are some of the other Creekside memories that were shared with Brecksville Patch: Shirley Harper, owner, via email: “Anniversaries are a time for celebration and recognition, but they are also a time for reflection. One of my …

Creekside: Celebrating 20 Years in Brecksville

Today is the 20th anniversary of the restaurant’s opening.

Twenty years ago today, Fast Eddie’s restaurant opened up in Brecksville. The malt-shop motif didn’t catch on in the community, so the owners soon gave it a makeover, adding a bar and a deck and creating a more upscale atmosphere. That restaurant was known as Eddie’s Creekside from 1993 until 2009. And three years ago, it became Creekside Restaurant and Bar. Creekside will be offering a variety of specials throughout the month in honor of its 20th anniversary. They have a special lager from The Brew Kettle and an anniversary blend from Caruso’s Coffee just for the occasion. They’ve been offering “Old Menu Favorites,” like city chicken and a Bistro Tuna Salad, since the start of the month at “old time” prices. And don’t miss today’s sweet …

Brecksville Bakers Serve Up the Pumpkin

Bakers at Creekside Restaurant give a peek at their Thanksgiving work.

Thanksgiving usually brings a lot of food and, of course, a lot of pie. Following up a filling turkey dinner with pumpkin pie is a popular tradition in America, said Matt Harper, Creekside Restaurant owner.   For some, that pie makes a busy holiday a crazy-busy holiday. The bakers at Creekside sometimes have work start at midnight the days before Thanksgiving. Cranking out more than 100 pies in a matter of days can be taxing work. “People are constantly placing orders, you just never know what to expect,” said Creekside baker of 8 and a half years, Heidi Pittman, who describes holidays as hectic and exciting. Pittman teams up with co-worker, Sally Kwait, to get the baking done. Kwait is a Creekside newbie—only eight months into her time at…

Remembering Sept. 11: A Fundraiser to Help a Local Family

Creekside Restaurant owner Matt Harper pulled the community together to raise money for a local family impacted by the attacks.

There’s a memorial at the front of Matt Harper’s neighborhood, a stone with a plaque and a tall flag, in honor of William Moskal.  Someone takes care of it, Harper said, keeping it covered in small flags and flowers every Sept. 11, the day Moskal died in the terrorist attacks in New York.  Moskal, who lived in Harper’s neighborhood, had been on a business trip when the planes hit the towers of the World Trade Center. He often went to New York on business for Marsh, but rarely met in that office, Harper said. When his wife didn’t hear from him for a few days, they held a vigil in the family’s yard.  Harper said he felt frustrated after he learned Moskal would not be returning to his wife and children.   “You want to help,” Harper said. “You…
